Why use the DSM?

Multi-functional safety management tool at a competitive cost

The DSM provides a holistic view of the safety case argument, breaking down large Goal Structuring Notation networks into easily managed, interlinked sections. It brings together a number of safety case management tools including Bowtie, Risk & Hazard management and FMEAs providing a multi-functional safety management tool.

Consistency across the Safety Case providing better assurance

The safety case elements within the Goal Structuring Notation have been built into the DSM metamodel as entities with their own data fields. Every fact and relationship is stored exactly once, providing greater assurance that the safety case is correct.

Rapid Safety Case Analysis saving effort time and money

A query and matrix based analytical function allows the user to rapidly search, identify and display where challenges apply in the safety case and what changes have occurred, saving time, effort and cost.

Simple Data Alignment delivers more efficient management at no additional cost

Data extension fields can be added to DSM entity fields quite easily and without any software changes. The DSM is designed to work within your existing processes and document formats. For instance you can add your own project management data for easier safety case progress tracking.

Clarity on the development and management of large and complex safety cases

The DSM uses GSN to set out safety case claims and assign evidence that supports those claims – this is key to providing clarity for effective assessment by regulators. It provides a single point of truth for all safety case information. A change in a safety case element is automatically changed in that element wherever it is used.

Provides easy integration with the user’s existing configuration management tools & processes

Safety Management requires strict configuration and file management processes. The DSM stores your safety cases as plain files rather than on a data base. This facilitates easy storage in file-based repositories, such as Huddle, High Q and Microsoft SharePoint, providing easy integration with your existing configuration management tools and processes.

Delivers flexible and rapid reporting

Safety cases, risks or hazard logs require the generation of reports on a regular basis. Formats vary for different organizations and the DSM has the flexibility to create and save reports in any required format. Using queries to gather the required information and with the ability to add diagrams and matrix tables into Microsoft Word or HTML, reports are easy to build and can be created in their own right or added to a larger document.

Rapid Production and distribution of key safety case entities

The DSM has the capability to clone diagrams, queries, matrices and reports to reduce building time. These entities can be exported from one model to another to provide conformity and uniformity. DSM packages support the development of modular safety cases allowing the export and import of sub-system safety cases.

Integration with other MBSE tools

Integrating with other Model based System Engineering (MBSE) through URLs and Microsoft Excel, the DSM is not a stand-alone system and has been designed to work alongside other MBSE. Hazard and risk data can be imported directly into their own DSM entities.
